Maximizing Esthetics for Your IPS e.max and Zirconia Restorations

Course Description:

Participants will create esthetic posterior restorations with an examination of block selection and its practical application in shading and characterization of IPS e.max CAD restorations. Finishing techniques in the “blue state” will be covered as well as proper burs and tools. Demonstration of fast and efficient techniques for single firing restorations as well as a discussion on the possibility to maximize anterior esthetics will allow doctor and staff to fully utilize the potential of both IPS e.max CAD and IPS ZirCAD for a variety of clinical situations.

Topics will include:

• Discussion of the theory of proper block selection
• Finishing technique for milled posterior IPS e.max CAD
• Shading and staining to blend with natural teeth
• Completion techniques for completing zirconia crowns; pre sintering polishing and post sintering polishing

Instructor: Jerry Varner, CDT

Jerry Varner, CDT has over 27 years experience as a dental laboratory technician and educator. He received his training as a dental technician in the United States Navy, Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas in 1998. Prior to joining Ivoclar Vivadent, Inc., Jerry taught Dental Laboratory Technology at the Department of Defense Dental Laboratory School at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. In addition, he also served as dental technician in both the U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force. After his retirement from the Air Force in 2016 he worked for the Department of Defense at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada as a dental technician and later joined Ivoclar as a Technical Consultant working in the Technical Services and Education Department. Presently. as the Associate Manager of Technical Services, Jerry oversees and provides education programs on the proper utilization of Ivoclar technical products throughout the United States and Canada. Other key responsibilities include managing technical product phone support and troubleshooting.
