Exhibition StatementCommon People is a painting project centred on everyday lives often left out of traditional portraiture. Using emulsion, acrylic, and spray paint, the works capture small, candid moments – from sitting in the living room with a gran to standing in the garden on a sunny afternoon – and give them weight and attention. Balancing expressive brushwork with quiet reflection, the series explores class, identity, and belonging, offering an honest depiction of working-class life with all its humour and complexity.
