Coming Home to Yourself - An Eco-Therapy Trauma Recovery GroupComing Home to Yourself is a gentle foundational trauma recovery group for women who are in the beginning stages of their trauma recovery journey or women who feel like they have been on their journey for years but continuously experience this feeling of getting pulled back and lost into their past over and over again.
This group is not about "deep processing of your trauma experiences". This group is where safety begins or is re-established. This group is where you learn to rediscover your authentic self while being held in nature.
Why is eco-therapy so important?
As humans, our immune system is a sensory organ. Whether through exposure to trauma or living a busy life, our sensory systems can become unregulated. Leaving parts of us in a state of hyperarousal or feeling numb.
Reconnecting with nature, is tapping into our ability to inherently reconnect back into the system. Allowing our sensory organ to once again become regulated. Allowing us to once again be whole.
I truly believe nature is vitality, nature is home. When we disconnect from the energetic systems around us, we are disconnecting from the very essence of life itself. Nature is a conscious mind. To heal is to make whole, and we are not whole when we have disconnected from the conscious mind of nature. When I invite you to be with nature, I am inviting you back to life, back to home.
This three-week group weaves together nature-based practices along with evidence-based practices such as CBT, parts work (IFS), Somatic Therapy, Expressive Arts, and mindfulness techniques to rebuild/relearn a sense of internal safety, trust, and connection - slowly, compassionately, and without pressure.
Week One: Establishing Safety and Self-Care
We begin by creating steadiness. Through restorative meditation and gentle nature practices. You will begin to understand your nervous system, your triggers, and what is means to feel safe again - not just in the world, but within yourself.
Week Two: Exploring Trust, Anger, and Connection
We explore emotions many women are not given permission to feel. Anger, boundaries, needs, and trust are approached with compassion and curiosity. You will begin to connect with your voice, your limits, and your right to take up space.
Week Three: Exploring Shame, Self-Image, and Compassion
Together we meet and soften our inner critic riddled with shame and self-blame. We do this will the support of nature, bilateral art making, and parts work. You will begin to meet yourself with more understanding and compassion.

Meet the Host:
My name is Becky Simoni, and I am a licensed mental health counselor and certified substance abuse counselor (LMHC and IADC). I am currently licensed in the states of IA and NE.
I am not just a traditional therapist but also an eco-therapist that practices from a holistic and evidence-based viewpoint of therapy. I believe when one finds balance and homeostasis within mind, body, soul, and environment you can then begin to experience a sense of peace, acceptance, and tolerance of the human being you are within this world. As a therapist I am passionate and honored to be holding space for my clients, so they are able to reconnect not just with themselves, but with the world around them.
I am the founder of Prairie River Counseling which aims to take counseling beyond the office with the intent to reconnect with the natural systems around us. Providing ecotherapy with a variety of evidence-based methods to support and hold space for the client’s growth and goals.
