Coming For to Carry Me Home

Donald R. Nelson will share a compelling narrative about the history of Portland undertakers and funeral homes. A visual extravaganza of images from the 1860s to modern day photography of both former funeral homes and ones that are still in operation will be featured. Additional information gathered from Portland City Directory advertisements and letterheads; with vignettes of horse drawn hearses, coffins, and undertakers’ supplies; offer graphic reminders of their services. Discovered architecture and archeology from cemeteries will be highlighted.
