The event is working with the local community and encourages families/friends/local community members and those interested in finding out more join us and find out more about blood donation and encourage the future generations of blood donors.

Our team are working hard to increase the number of people giving blood and we urgently need your help. There is a significant need for more donors of Black heritage to help the growing number of patients needing blood.

Black heritage donors are ten times more likely to have the Ro blood type urgently needed to treat the 15,000 people in the UK with sickle cell disorder. Sickle cell is a painful and debilitating condition which is particularly prevalent in people of Black African, Black Caribbean, or Mixed background.

Donors from Black heritage communities provide better matched blood to those who need it. Demand for these subtypes is growing as more people have regular transfusions to treat blood disorders such as sickle cell.

Our objectives are to:

Increase awareness of the need for blood donors of Black heritage

Work with the local Haringey Community/Bussiness/Schools/charities

Recruit 12,000 new donors of Black heritage in 2025, to help meet the increasing demand for the Ro subtype needed by people fighting sickle cell disorder. You can find out more information about sickle cell here https://bit.ly/3tU67y4
