About this Event

Day 1:

DISCUSSION

· Limited palettes, unusual color palettes, create a mood

· Relationship on a canvas: light/dark, sharp/unfocused, etc.

HANDS ON

· Practice mixing colors with zorn palette

· Gradients, swatches & neutrals

· Wet into wet painting

LUNCH

DISCUSSION

· Talk about landscapes, ways to indicate space, abstracting basics – examples

HANDS ON (add cadmium yellow medium to palette)

· Notans (black and white shapes)

· Drawing from photo – Notan

· Recreate images in contrasting colors

Day 2:

DISCUSSION

· Color relationships, abstract landscapes, simplify into shapes, how colors advance and recede

HANDS ON

· Students use the colors they chose to mix colors, swatches, nix neutrals

LUNCH

DISCUSSION

· Landscape ways to indicate space, value patterns, tools for mixing the right color & value

Hands on

· 3 value patterns focusing on interesting shapes

· Same drawing with different value patterns

· Students use tools above to mix colors they want

· Paint abstracted landscapes
