COLONEL THOMAS LOWREY: THE MAN WHO SUPPLIED WASHINGTON'S ARMY
About this Event
Join Kingwood Historian Betty DeSapio for her lecture, “Colonel Thomas Lowrey - The Man Who Supplied Washington’s Army.” Thomas Lowrey’s contributions to Hunterdon County, to New Jersey, and to the United States cannot be overestimated. An Irish immigrant, he played a key role in supplying the patriots during the Revolutionary War. He held several political positions on the local and state level and was the first Marshal of New Jersey in the U.S. Marshals Service. Lowrey’s wife, Esther Fleming Lowrey, was prominent in her own right. Come and learn about their legacy to Hunterdon County.
The lecture will be held at 10:00 a.m. at the Kingwood Municipal Building at 599 Oak Grove Road, Frenchtown, NJ. After the lecture, we will caravan up the road a bit and Betty will conduct a tour of the nearby Oak Summit Cemetery, where Thomas, Esther and several other historic figures are buried.
