About this Event
The Osa Peninsula Expedition combined scientific research, community support, and conservation across one of Costa Rica's most biodiverse regions. Working in remote villages like Guaymí and El Tigre, and within Corcovado National Park, the team documented unique ecosystems for a biodiversity guidebook while advancing ecological, zoological, and topographical studies. They sketch-mapped trails to support future conservation and ecotourism, and engineered an innovative solution: refurbishing the vital Manzano Bridge using recycled plastic. The bridge's reopening became a community celebration of international collaboration. The team also delivered humanitarian aid through free dental clinics, reading glasses, educational resources, and school support.
JOIN US to hear expedition members Paul Lodge and Sarah Wood share the story behind this work. They'll take you through the practicalities of conducting rigorous field research in challenging environments while building ethical partnerships with local communities. You'll discover how their integrated approach generated valuable scientific data, created sustainable community initiatives, and achieved tangible conservation outcomes in fragile ecosystems.
Whether you're interested in scientific exploration, community development, or environmental protection, this talk offers fascinating insights into what modern expedition work can accomplish when science and stewardship work hand in hand.
