About this Event

Interview your family and collage an art piece together that honors legacy. The Carver Genealogy Center invites community to a workshop you don't want to miss! Explore familial memory through oral tradition. Attend with your biological and/or chosen family to share ancestral stories. Family members can interview each other about their history and create a collage together honoring family legacy. Supplies provided, but attendees are encouraged to bring materials from home to incorporate! Saturday, September 5, 2026 from 1-3pm at the Carver Genealogy Center.

Reneiss Ilisha Garcia is a Black-Mexican-American writer of Indigenous descent, artist-scholar, memory worker, and community healing facilitator. She is the creator of An Ode to Our Grandmothers, an intergenerational storytelling and preservation project that documents the lives and legacies of women elders through descendant-led oral histories, poetry, and visual art. Her work centers the voices, memories, and cultural contributions of women whose lives have often been overlooked despite their profound impact on families and communities. Through her writing, research, and community practice, she is committed to preserving stories, strengthening intergenerational bonds, and cultivating spaces where memory becomes a source of belonging, healing, and liberation.
