Zine Mela has been open all of July, and as it draws to a close we want to celebrate and document it's Croydon iteration by creating a collaborative zine.
Whether you have spent time visiting Zine Mela, or this will be your first trip, we want your reflections and reactions from Hamja's collection.
We'll spend the first hour reading, browsing, sharing and discussing the books, flyers, posters, cassettes and pamphlets that make up Zine Mela..
We will then start to create our own responses - what stories are missing? what have we learnt from it? what has it inspired, What new types community can printmaking help build? Who is still excluded from the art, cultural, Zine spaces? How can Zines and print making make a better world?
We will craft our repsonses - this could be origional writing, an illustration, an reveiw of a zine in the collection, a poster for a future zine fair, a collage of ideas - whatever the contents of Zine Mela prompt - and collate them into a collaborative zine.
Every particapant will get a copy of the group zine when it is printed.
Tickets are £10 with options for added solidarity donations. If you are financially struggling or unwaged write to us: dsflprintcollective@gmail with "ZINE MELA RISO workshop" in subject header, we can work something out.
Whether you're a seasoned print maker or just starting and curious, this event promises hands-on learning and inspiring connections.

About your hosts
Print collective is a DIY volunteer ran group that have supported activists, bands, community groups and everyday people create zines, posters, flyers for the last 9 years. They run monthly introduction to riso sessions and print low cost materials for the community.
Riso printing is a high-speed, cost-effective digital duplication process that uses soy-based inks and stencils to layer vibrant colors onto paper. It is widely used by artists and designers to create zines, posters, and art prints with a distinct, charmingly imperfect aesthetic similar to screen printing.
Artist Hamja Ahsan is Curator of the Zine Mela exhibition and part of the Documenta 15 Lumbung Zine collective. Hamja has been involved in Zine cultures for over 30 years, curating DIY Cultures festival of creative activism and author the cult book of speculative fiction Shy Radicals
Both are residents at Turf Projects, Croydon’s homegrown contemporary arts space.
Founded in 2013 by local young artists, Turf support people to develop creative work that helps shape the world around us.
