Knowledge is Power: Myeloma Awareness Event
About this Event
Join us for an event aimed at raising awareness of myeloma amongst Black women. This event will provide a welcoming and relaxed space, bringing together community members and lived experience experts to learn more about myeloma, ask questions, and have conversations in a supportive environment.
Myeloma is a blood cancer that disproportionately affects Black communities, yet awareness remains low. This evening is designed to change that.
Race Equality Foundation and Myeloma UK are partnering with Soul Purpose 360 to bring the Knowledge is Power myeloma awareness campaign directly to the community. This event will empower attendees with knowledge that could lead to earlier detection and diagnosis within Black communities. The event will also feature the screening of the Knowledge is Power awareness video which documents the experiences of Black people living with myeloma.
What to expect
The event will cover:
- What myeloma is and why awareness matters
- Key signs and symptoms to look out for
- The importance of early detection and diagnosis
- Sharing of lived experience from community connectors living with Myeloma
- Screening of the Knowledge is Power campaign video
- A Q&A session
Complimentary drinks and sandwiches will be available.
Awareness materials will also be available to take away.
Who is this for?
This event is specifically designed for Black women. No prior knowledge is needed; just curiosity and a willingness to learn.
Facilitated by people with lived experience
The session will be led by our Community Connectors, who have personal lived experience of myeloma. A Myeloma UK representative will also be present to support the discussion.
