About the book
Ten years after the moment that changed his life and sparked a movement, Kaepernick tells his story in his own words.
In The Perilous Fight, the Super Bowl quarterback, civil rights activist, philanthropist and entrepreneur takes readers beyond the moment the world witnessed to the years that shaped it. From growing up as a Black child adopted into a white family and navigating questions of identity and belonging, to his rise in the NFL and the experiences that transformed his understanding of race, power and injustice, Kaepernick reveals what ultimately led him to take a knee — and what that decision cost.
Equal parts memoir and manifesto, The Perilous Fight is a story of identity, conviction, sacrifice and courage, and an invitation to consider the future we are still fighting to build.
Kaepernick’s work has continued far beyond the football field. He is the founder of Kaepernick Publishing and Know Your Rights Camp, which empowers Black and Brown youth through education, and most recently founded Lumi, an AI-driven education platform centered on storytelling, literacy and student expression.
