About this Event

Does your code run for forever on your laptop? Do your datasets take up all your storage? And why do people keep talking about Sherlock?

In this hands-on studio, we will learn about high-performance computing (HPC) and how it can be used to execute tasks that take too long on your personal computer. We’ll discuss what HPC is, when to use them, and what resources are available at Stanford. You will learn how to access a computing cluster, write a batch script, and submit it to be run. We will also discuss what it means to parallelize code and when it may be helpful.

Please bring a laptop to the studio to work through activities. Some prior exposure to coding will be helpful, but no prior experience with HPC is expected. Snacks will be provided.

This Engineering Studio is presented by the at the Center for Teaching and Learning and the at the School of Engineering. For more information about the program and upcoming events, visit . For any questions or inquiries, please contact us at [email protected].
