In this 4 part workshop, we will dive into the magic of seasonal natural dye, learning different techniques each class to coax color from local plants onto cloth, including immersion dyeing, bundle dyeing, flower pounding and cyanotype printing. The fourth class will make space for participants to create a tiny quilt using the fabrics we dyed throughout the season. Along the way, we will learn about respectful foraging, plant connection, the mordanting process, and all you need to get started dyeing at home. Beginners warmly welcome! This is a 4-part workshop, meeting 6/27, 7/18, 8/15, 9/19
Maggie Ruth Haaland (they/she) is a queer natural dyer, visible mender, herbalist, quilter and educator wiggling their roots into the midcoast soil after living in Boston for fifteen years. Her work is woven together with a through line of plants- thru natural dye, seasonal connection, and the magic of the natural world. Their classes are gentle, fun, and hands on and aim to create a container of connection with self, community, and the land around us.
