Coalition Theater House Team Auditions

THE COALITION AUDITIONS ARE HERE!

The Coalition Theater is holding auditions for a new long-form improv house team! The new team will perform in our staple House Special show every other Thursday at 7:30PM starting in September or October. This team will be led by Coalition selected coach Kenneth Stephens and perform a 20-25 minute longform set.

July 18, 2026 Audition Times:

9:45AM - 11AM

11:15AM- 12:30PM

1:15PM- 2:30PM

-Callbacks for the House Team will be held on July 19th between 9:30am and 1pm.
What are we looking for?

• 6 to 7 Improvisers who are:
• Solid in improv fundamentals
• Improvisers with a more movement oriented play style (people that do more than stand on stage and talk to each other)

What will you do in the audition?

The first audition will consist of mostly 2 person scenework, through a process that ensures we see all auditioners multiple times. The callback will include a longform montage to assess show level skills.
Who will I be auditioning for?
In addition to Kenneth, the panel will consist of at least one Artistic Director from the Coalition and the current House Special coaches as well as the coalition’s dean of students.

WHAT WE REQUIRE:

• Previous improv training- Completion of Coalition Improv 301 or higher with a firm grasp on mechanics/technique and longform improv. Performers are expected to complete improv 401 once cast.

•Ability to practice weekly in the lead-up to your debut, and on a consistent basis during your run. (weekly, bi-weekly, etc as needed to ensure consistent show quality.)

•All team members must be 18 years or older.

ABOUT KENNETH STEPHENS:
Kenneth Elijah Stephens’ expedient rise in the Richmond improv scene is a result of his dedication to immersing himself in the craft. Since first enrolling in classes at the Coalition Theater in January of 2023, Kenneth has played on several of the organization’s improv and sketch comedy house teams. In addition to being a member of the Coalition’s much-celebrated teaching staff for dozens of sessions, instructing at the 101 & 201 levels respectively, Kenneth has been a guest-coach at Virginia Commonwealth University, where he has had the privilege of facilitating the development of their resident BIPOC improv ensemble “Black, Brown, & Honey.” Now, Kenneth intends to use the knowledge gained from his collective experiences to collaborate with a smaller group of enthusiastic improvisers committed to a shared vision curated with the purpose of serving the patrons of an institution and community that has given him so much. Some of his interests outside of comedy include sushi, video games, astrology, and horror films.
