CMHA Empathic Strain Workshop

Every day, team members help newcomers navigate complex legal systems, access housing and healthcare, and begin rebuilding their lives in safety and belonging. This work is deeply meaningful, but it is also emotionally demanding. Constant exposure to trauma, crisis, and loss places our staff at high risk of compassion fatigue and burnout, which in turn can impact the quality and continuity of care for refugee families.

The 3-hour Empathic Strain Workshop is customized by CMHA to the needs of front line workers. The course is offered as a collaborative opportunity to learn about empathic strain, vicarious trauma, moral distress, moral residue, burnout and compassion satisfaction and their impact on well-being, as well as the impact of trauma on the brain.

Light refreshments will be provided.
