La colmena
About this Event

A choral novel that portrays everyday life with harshness, irony and humanity. In La colmena (The Beehive) by Camilo José Cela, dozens of stories intertwine in the grey Madrid of the post-war period, where survival, desire and frustration set the pace of a city trying to rebuild itself after the war.

Amidst smoke-filled cafés, half-finished conversations and lives that barely touch, characters from all walks of life seek affection, money or simply a place in the world. Like in a beehive, each one moves within a chaotic and fragile human network, where small stories reveal the intimate pulse of an entire era.

A lucid and deeply human portrait of a society marked by silence, precariousness and the need to move forward.

To get the most out of this activity, we recommend reading the book in the original language. Please note the book club takes place in Spanish (although English speakers are also welcome).
