About this Event
About this Panel
Traditionally, bars were more than just drinks and cruising: they were holiday potlucks, neighborhood sports team sponsors, and a chance for lifelong friendships. While half of America's gay bars have closed since 2007, new queer spaces are eschewing the rainbow flag and LGBT map markers in favor of word-of-mouth networking and underground takeovers. Is this the future of the gay bar?
About the Series
Speaking Of is a monthly panel series occuring on the third Thursday of every month. Inspired by discussions after queer history walking tours hosted by Unspeakable Vice, the series invites members of the local community to weigh in on history, trends, and predictions of how queer life is changing.
This series is run with the support of the GLBT Historical Society and the Internet Archive.
