Learn to create your own miniature ecosystem in a jar, a tiny garden that will fit in any home.
About this Event

Learn to create your own miniature ecosystem in a jar, a tiny garden that will fit in any home.

Looking for an alternative way to get green-fingered and creative? The building of terrariums can help reduce stress and lift your mood, so join in and beat the blues on these dreary winter days!

Do you know that terrariums act like mini greenhouses, increasing the humidity that so many plants love, allowing the environment to recycle water and its own organic matter.

By attending this workshop, you will learn how to create a terrarium in a jar step-by-step, including:

  • How to choose plants for your terrarium
  • types of mosses and how to collect them
  • components/layers of a terrarium
  • How a terrarium works as a miniature ecosystem

As well as learning how to create a terrarium, our workshop leader will also share tips about how to ensure they have a long life and how to maintain them in the future.

If you’re a plant lover looking to learn how to take your indoor arrangements to the next level, this is the workshop for you!

We have planned this special workshop as part of Glasgow's Climate Week 2026.

Donation/Workshop materials: This workshop is offered on a suggested donation basis of £5. As the materials of this workshop will include live plants, we want to avoid wasting the materials due to no-shows.

Recommended for:

Adults/ anyone who is 18 or older

Workshop Leader: Else Kek

Else is the chair of Ricefield Arts and Cultural Centre and has many years of experience delivering eco-friendly art and craft workshops and climate awareness projects to communities across Scotland.
