About this Event
Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada's Pro Bono Project and the Las Vegas Chapter of the National Bar Association offer this rare opportunity for pro bono attorneys to learn from and meet the new Chief Judge of Nevada's Eighth Judicial District Court, Tierra Jones! In this CLE course, Chief Judge Jones will present her top five tips for attorneys from 4:00 - 5:00 pm. The CLE will be followed by a meet and greet with Chief Judge Jones from 5:00 - 6:30 pm. Hors d'oeuvres and drinks will be served.

Chief Judge Jones's Biography
Tierra D. Jones is currently a District Court Judge in Department 10 of the Eighth Judicial District Court. On April 27, 2017, Governor Sandoval appointed Tierra to the District Court Bench. Tierra became the first African American woman to serve on the District Court in the State of Nevada. She is currently the Presiding Criminal Judge of the Eighth Judicial District Court and she currently manages the court’s homicide program, and she was selected to be the next Chief Judge of the Court as of July 1, 2026.
Judge Jones grew up in the small town of Hawthorne Nevada. She attended the William S. Boyd School of Law and obtained her Juris Doctorate in 2006. Judge Jones has dedicated her legal career to public service. Immediately after law school, she worked as a law clerk for the Honorable Stewart L. Bell in the Eighth Judicial District Court. After passing the State Bar, she worked for the Office of the Clark County Public Defender. She then began her prosecuting career at the Nye County District Attorney’s Office and later moved on to the Clark County District Attorney’s Office. Judge Jones has also volunteered several hours of community service within the Las Vegas community. Mentoring young law students has been a priority for her, and she has been able to accomplish this goal through the National Bar Association, and being a volunteer judge and coach for mock trial and moot court.
Judge Jones also serves as a member of several committees and volunteers with several organizations. She is a member of the Eighth Judicial District Court Executive Committee, the Eighth Judicial District Court Education Committee, the Clark County Criminal Justice Coordinating Council, the Nevada Supreme Court Committee Studying Supreme Court Rule 250, the Commission to Study Evidence-Based Pretrial Release, the State of Nevada Board of Bar Examiners, the Clark County Black Elected Officials, the Howard McKibben Inns of Court, and the Board of Directors for the Justice Michael Douglas Fellowship Program.
