Clay Creature Kitchen

During this live interactive experience, participants "call in" imaginative creature requests to the Clay Creature Kitchen, where puppet chef Dave helps inspire the creation of original clay characters.

Along the way, participants practice creative problem-solving, storytelling, emotional expression, and collaborative thinking through their own hands-on making and crafting of clay creatures. In this workshop participants will each make their own emotionally charged clay creatures. In addition they will build the environmental stressors that cause those emotions from Creative Reuse's unique materials.

To support our mission of providing unique, earth friendly art programming we ask that you pay what you can (PWYC) for this workshop. Our PWYC model is not meant to create a cost barrier, but allow for those with the financial means to support us to do so. We trust in each individual participant's autonomy and ability to decide for themselves how much they can financially contribute to this workshop!

Folks can make a payment through Eventbrite, or in person at the workshop itself! We will have a cash jar and a QR code for folks to pay via PayPal.

Creative Reuse is a supportive space, open to folks with any level of artistic ability. Our goal is to foster expression and creative community, not perfection. Just bring an open mind– we’ll cover the rest (including materials!).

This workshop is a part of our Guest Teaching Artist workshop series! On the second sunday of each month we bring in a local artist to host a workshop sharing their specialty. This month's Guest TA is Dave English (he/him) and his project CodeJoyLLC. Here's a bit about him:

Clay Creature Kitchen is the result of an ongoing collaboration with CodeJoy to create an engaging STEAM experience that combines art, storytelling, design, and social-emotional learning. After successfully piloting the program with students, we are now expanding through new community partnerships and developing an online version.

I'm an artist, puppeteer, educator, and community builder whose career has centered on using creativity to bring people together. My background in puppetry, theater, and performance art led me into arts administration, teaching, startup companies, and even the corporate world- always with a throughline of art, storytelling, performance, and community engagement.
