“The Family Game,” directed by Yoshimitsu Morita, 1983, 107 minutes With its sharp satire, formal audacity, and pitch-black humor this film shook up the movie establishment. Though it missed out on the Japan Academy Prize for Best Picture, it was awarded Best Japanese Film of the Year by both Kinema Junpo and the British Film Institute, and would go on to earn well deserved status as a classic
