Paper marbling is a centuries-old art form in which colorful patterns, similar to those on marble or other kinds of stone, are created on a paper surface. In this class students will learn a brief history of paper marbling, its importance in the print arts, and examples of how it can be used. The bulk of the class will be spent with students marbling their own paper. This art form is an excellent entry point for anyone who holds the misguided belief that they can’t “do art” or that they’re not an artist and is looking to connect with the creative that lives in all of us. This class is also for those who have an interest in the book and print arts and want to dip their toe into its very deep pool.
Students will leave the class with their own, albeit still damp, marbled papers. As this is a very hands-on class, participants are strongly encouraged to wear clothes they won’t mind getting dirty or to bring an apron or smock.
All supplies are included for this class. Paper marbling tools and equipment will be provided by and remain property of the Roycroft Campus.
The class will be taught by Caren Calamita, a former ENL & SpEd teacher, who when not volunteering in the Roycroft Campus Print Room, runs a small letterpress print shop out of her dining room in Rochester, NY with her partner Cameron Anderson.
Class Tuition $50 + $10 Supplies =

Registration is required and seating is limited (Max. of 10 students)
