Foundations in Drawing & Understanding Formwith Artist, Jennifer Koury
3-Day workshop
Thursdays, January 8th, 15th and 22nd from 9:30am-12:30pm
Journey into drawing using dark and light values to create forms and shapes. Explore varied techniques including mark making, additive and subtractive tonal sensitivity and line quality variation, while learning foundational drawing skills based on form and shadow. Develop a fundamental understanding of planes on forms, and light cast on forms, including highlights, form shadows, and the resulting cast shadows. Upon completion, participants are encouraged to continue their personal drawing journey to build upon their learned drawing skills.
Students are required to bring their own supplies. A suggested supply list is included on the back of this form.
Jennifer Koury is a Buffalo-based artist, freelance illustrator, and arts educator. She holds degrees in Painting and Printmaking from Virginia Commonwealth University and Illustration from Art Center College of Design, California and she has been teaching at various Art Centers around the area.
Koury is represented by Meibohm Fine Arts, East Aurora, NY. She exhibits her paintings in both solo and group shows, and won awards, including being finalist in the Chautauqua Annual Exhibition of Contemporary Art. Presently, her solo exhibition of 51 paintings, Enchanted Perception, is on view, November 5- December 27, 2025, Olmsted Gallery, Springville Center for the Arts, 37 North Buffalo St, Springville, NY. Koury’s art is featured in the NFWS Mary Whyte Gallery Walk video, George Washington's Mount Vernon Visitor Center in Virginia, and Yuma Regional Medical Center in Arizona, and her illustrations have appeared in many children's books. She is an exhibiting member of the Buffalo Society of Artists, and a signature member of the Baltimore Watercolor Society and the Niagara Frontier Watercolor Society.
