Dans le cadre de notre exposition «L’atout de la ville c’est qu’elle n’a jamais été parfaite», Cinéma Public vous propose une série de trois soirées de projections dans le parc Baile, accompagnées d’ateliers.

Montréal, bâti sur l'eau, n'a pas accès à l'eau : les bords de l'eau sont privés. Oui, privés ! L'eau ne sert qu'à faire marcher la grande roue du commerce et de l'industrie, quand elle n'est pas l'apanage exclusif des privilégiés. Pourtant, l'eau devrait être un élément au service du bonheur de l'homme comme en Suède, où toutes les rives sont publiques.

Docufiction racontant l'histoire charmante d'un gamin vivant dans le centre-sud de Montréal, qui profite d'un jour de congé pour prendre la poudre d'escampette. Il découvrira le bord de l'eau, l'horizon élargi du grand fleuve Saint-Laurent et l'activité fourmillante du port de Montréal. Le film nous montre un aspect souvent oublié de Montréal, tel qu'il était en 1958.
Projection de «À Saint-Henri le cinq septembre»
Réalisation d’Hubert Aquin, 1962, 41 min, VO en français
Documentaire réalisé par Hubert Aquin en 1962 portant sur une tournée de 24 heures dans le quartier populaire Saint-Henri à Montréal. On y découvre la simplicité de cette population sans complexes, ni très riche, ni absolument pauvre, qui a commencé à décroître alors que Saint-Henri n'est plus le royaume des tanneries qu'il était jadis. Le film a été inspiré par le roman Bonheur d'occasion de Gabrielle Roy.

Montreal, built on water, doesn’t have access to it: its waterfronts are privately owned. Yes, privately owned! Water serves only to keep the wheels of commerce and industry turning, unless reserved to the privileged few. Yet water should be a source of well-being for all, as it is in Sweden, where shorelines are public.
Screening of «Au bout de ma rue»

Docufiction tells the charming story of a young boy living in Montréal’s Centre-Sud neighborhood, who slips away on a day off to roam through the city. He discovers the broad expanse of the St. Lawrence River and the bustling Port of Montreal. The film portrays an often forgotten part of Montreal, as it was in 1958.
Screening of «À Saint-Henri le cinq septembre»

This short film is a series of vignettes of life in Saint-Henri, a Montreal working-class district, on the first day of school. From dawn to midnight, we take in the neighbourhood’s pulse: a mother fussing over children, a father's enforced idleness, teenage boys clowning, young lovers dallying - the unposed quality of daily life.
