Opening circle: 2-2:10pm; Class from 2:10pm- 3pm by Jovanina Pagano: Falling into Potential, Part I
* please arrive to class 10 minutes early so we can start on time
* all levels warmly welcomed
In this pre-jam class — part I of II — we’ll explore the seeming paradox of Contact Improvisation: that stability, safety, and freedom of choice all depend on the body’s ability to release into gravity, fold at the joints, and ride the fall. We’ll begin with a short shaking practice to warm and lubricate the joints, then move into solo explorations of fluid stability. From there, we’ll expand into partnered weight-sharing exercises that combine negotiating center — our own and our partner’s — while staying nimble, responsive, and free.
Jovanina Pagano is a dedicated student and teacher of Contact Improvisation, Afro-Haitian folkloric dance, Body-Mind Centering, and Iyengar Yoga. She has shared her love of yoga and dance with the New York City public and private schools, St. John the Divine, Heifetz International Music Institute, Jackson Hole Dancer’sWorkshop, Key West Dance Company, and the City-Wide Youth Opera. Currently, co-produces contact improvisation events at the Peaceable Barn Studio in Redding, CT.

FAQ:
I haven't done Contact Improv in 20 years! Is this jam right for me?
We invite dancers/humans of all levels of experience and types of ability to this jam. We trust you to know your limits and we encourage you to observe and rest as you'd like. If you have questions or need help, please feel free to approach Leah or anyone else that looks open to offering support.
I've never done CI and barely know what it is. How can I participate?
Absolute beginners should let the host know that they are new to the form so that proper support and guidance can be provided. You are welcome to watch for the first jam, if you'd like, or if you'd like to join in, we will make sure you are buddied up with someone who can show you some basics. Witnessing other dancers is always welcome and is a valued contribution to the dance environment.
Can I bring my kid/s?
Kids are magical beings and we welcome them. If you bring yours, please stay near them and make sure they are safe and respectful of all jam guidelines.
Is the studio accessible by wheelchair?
Unfortunately, it is not. Please email us to let us know how we can best make your attendance possible and comfortable.
