Summer evenings are a precious commodity around here and we're claiming one of yours with an opening you won't want to miss!
Join us Thursday, August 20th from 5:30 - 8pm to celebrate our second solo exhibition of original sculptures and works on paper by Maine-based installation and mixed media artist, Christina Watka!
In her second solo exhibition with Soapbox, Christina Watka shares a new series of original suspended mixed media sculptures, kinetic Light Totems, and botanical drawings inspired by her time at the Eastern Frontier Society's Norton Island artist residency off the coast of Maine. Created in true collaboration with the natural environment during her twelve-day communion with the island, each work is imbued with a sense of light, perspective, and place that reaches far beyond its shores.
"As I worked in my happy slant of light in West Camp, tying hundreds of colorful knots, it occurred to me how creation happens in community. It occurred to me that this lightness that I so naturally bear wasn’t meant to be hoarded for a final grand reveal. It was meant to be offered, suspended, scattered over the island in pockets of delight and reflection as an invitation inward or outward depending on where each of you were at the time." - Christina Watka
