Chinese Wedding Tea Ceremony Experience with Vancity Officiant

For many couples, especially those navigating multiple cultural identities, the tea ceremony is often meaningful but unclear in structure or intention. This experience by Officiant Kevin Leung and Officiant Kit Chan from Vancity Officiant is designed to bridge that gap, allowing couples to:

• Understand the meaning and role of the tea ceremony within a wedding
• See how it unfolds in a real, modern setting
• Begin shaping how it can be integrated into their own celebration

The workshop is designed as a progressive experience, moving from understanding → visualization → personal reflection.

Part 1 | Workshop: Understanding & Demonstration led by Officiant Kevin Leung and Officiant Kit Chan from Vancity Officiant

• Introduction to the meaning and symbolism of the tea ceremony
• Its role within modern weddings and family dynamics
• Considerations for multicultural and simplified adaptations
• Live demonstration of ceremony flow and structure

Part 2 | Spatial Experience within the Garden

• Introduction to areas suitable for tea ceremony settings guided by the Garden team
• Visual interpretation by our photography partner, highlighting how moments can be captured

Part 3 | Open Conversation with the Officiants

• Informal, optional discussion space for couples, to ask questions about their own wedding plans
• Guidance on how to adapt the tea ceremony to different family structures and cultural contexts

This workshop is envisioned as a co-created cultural experience, between the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden and the Vancity Officiant team.

While the Garden contributes space, cultural context, and audience reach, Vancity Officiant contributes ceremony expertise, structure, and experience design

Together, the collaboration creates a meaningful experience that combines: Cultural storytelling, Wedding ceremony insight and Spatial immersion within the Garden.
