Event Details
Over this bank holiday weekend in addition to our usual demonstrations in the Museum there will be some simple Easter crafts for children to do in the meeting room for free when they are accompanied by a parent or guardian.
As you enter the Museum you will walk though the tea room that provides homemade cakes, snacks and a range of drinks. Walk through the tea room into the Exhibition area.
CatchLife photography have an exhibition on Industrial heritage and women of the Colne Valley. Go downstairs into the Victorian kitchen and step back in time, it looks like the family has just left. You'll see interesting items on the table to give you a window into the world of food preparation. Then move onto Mrs Pearson's kitchen, Mrs Pearson managed the kitchen and adjacent wash room to ensure her family was fed and kept clean. Venture into the 1840s bedroom to see where the Pearson family slept, and where they worked. Find out about the furniture in the room, and a story about a man who disappeared. Go upstairs to the Loom Chamber.
The Loom Chamber on the top floor was the hub of the weaving business - large looms fill the room. The long run of windows light the room, and there is a great view of the Colne Valley. If we have volunteers available there will be demonstrations of weaving on our weaving looms. The Weavers will be delighted to explain how the looms work and show you what they are working on and how life as a loom weaver would be. Walk through the Loom Chamber into the Spinning Room.
Learn about the tools which were used in the weaving industry such as smaller looms, spinning jennies and spinning wheels. Discover the process of making yarn and thread, and find out about murder and mayhem! If we have volunteers available they will demonstrate.
Next door is the Edwardian Clog Makers shop. Learn about the history of clogs and Golcar's long history of clog making. Find out who wore the clogs and the different designs and try some on to see how comfortable they are.
Walk into the meeting room and this is where the craft table will be set up with some simple Easter Crafts.
Finish off your visit with a trip to Spring Rock Tearoom where there will be delicious homemade cakes, and refreshments then visit our shop for cards, gifts, books, and products unique to Colne Valley Museum.
