About this Event

Deisgned to inspire young children, author-illustrator Kerry McQuaide's debut picture book features a graceful, gritty, and courageous female surfer as she faces the mighty force of nature's waves -- inspired by the world-famous, record-breaking swells that occur in Nazaré, Portugal. It's a testament to the human spirit and a young girl's ability to get back up after being turned upside down.

Kerry McQuaide grew up with parents and sisters who believed snuggling and laughing were a part of reading picture books.That probably explains her love and enthusiasm for writing and illustrating stories for kids, Stories are fun, but it's more than that...each book a child reads is a doorway into understanding more about herself and more about the world she lives in. Kerry wants to create those doorways--to laughter, to learning, to imagined worlds, and most importantly... to connecting with each other.

Oblong Books in Rhinebeck is a fully wheelchair accessible space with on-site van accessible parking. Microphones and speakers will not be used at this event. Our chairs are stackable and have arms.
