In 1943, in German-occupied Thessaloniki, a young Christian man falls in love with a Jewish girl. The couple’s only refuge of sorts is an ouzeri owned by the man’s brother-in-law, Vasilis Tsitsanis, who at the then age of 28 was in his creative prime as a composer of rebetika.
