About this Event

Take a stroll through the ancient streets of Chester to uncover the city’s experiences of war from its foundation as a Roman fortress through to the Second World War and beyond.

This public walking tour takes you to many of Chester’s famous sights, such as the Cross, the city walls, the cathedral and Chester Castle, while discovering the hidden stories of how conflict shaped the city and its citizens. From medieval fortifications to Victorian barracks, from Civil War sieges to 20th century air raids, this tour traces Chester’s long and complex relationship with conflict — and the remarkable resilience of its people.
