Victorian Architecture on Parkgate Road
About this Event
A guided talk and walking tour exploring two contrasting examples of Victorian architecture on Parkgate Road.
An introduction to two of Parkgate Road’s most beautiful Victorian buildings, this illustrated talk and tour explores the visual language of Victorian Architecture.
By comparing the University Chapel, a religious building, and the John Douglas designed Vicarage, a domestic one, it’s possible to explore Victorian social attitudes, and why a technologically advanced society looked back to the medieval era for inspiration.
Please note that the University Chapel will not be open for general access until 1.30pm. It will be open until 2.30pm. If you wish to visit you can drop in any time during the hour but you will need to book a free ticket via eventbrite in advance.
The Chapel will also be open on Monday 14 September from 1.30pm-2.30pm and advanced booking is essential.
Meeting Point: The entrance of University of Chester Chapel, Exton Park, Parkgate Road, Chester, CH1 4BJ.
