Converted to a theatre in 1945, the Playhouse has an astonishing history dating back to 1806; it has been a salts works, slipper baths, steam mill, bakery, medicinal spa, indoor cycling school, gymnasium, ARP centre and a swimming pool – which still exists under the auditorium.
