We are looking for volunteers and their rescue sighthounds (greyhounds, lurchers – all welcome!) to take part in a charity drawing class where we will sketch and celebrate the dogs, as well as raising money and awareness for Kent Greyhound Rescue. The drawing class would be 2 hours in length and hosted and taught by Jennie of Wild Life Drawing (see below for more information) with around 20 participants. A proportion of each ticket (£10 from a £35 ticket) will be donated to Kent Greyhound Rescue. We're going to be running one class taking place from 17-9pm and we would need 2-3 dogs and their volunteers/owners to draw for the session. The drawing classes are for all ages and ability levels, and we maintain a quiet and respectful mood in the space. Please don't think that your dog has to remain still! We welcome all natural behaviour from the dogs and we teach the classes with tips on drawing moving subjects, people also take photos to work from. I'm sure that your greyhounds are very well behaved, but it would be ideal to have dogs that would be comfortable enough to settle in unfamiliar spaces and with different people and dogs in the same room. We will of course provide blankets, water and plenty of tasty snacks for the dogs – and we hope to be able to donate some pet portraits to you as a thank you! As we draw, we would love to hear about your relationship with your dog, and some of the amazing stories you'll have of helping others.
Wild Life Drawing is a life drawing class where we draw real animals instead of humans, whilst raising money and awareness for conservation at the same time. We've been drawing animals since 2014 and have partnered with many different charities including the RSPB, the London Wildlife Trust and the Barn Owl Trust and have collaborated on classes with places like the Natural History Museum, the Royal Academy and the V&A Museum. Since we began we have raised over £70,000 for animal charities. As well as teaching animal anatomy, we use the classes as an opportunity for folks to learn more about different species – their hunting techniques, habitat and any ecological or welfare issues affecting them. It is our aim to partner with the very best handlers, sanctuaries and rescue centres to deliver our drawing classes – animal welfare is our top priority at all times. Please feel free to have a look at our website at the link above for our mission statement and more.
