What to Expect
Your dachshund will race down our 25 yard grass track for glory, treats, and bragging rights! The field is limited to 50 racers and doxies will run multiple heats to advance to the finals.
Before Race Day
- A signed release/waiver is required before your dog can participate. We'll follow up with you 2 weeks before the event with the release form and a final reminder — please complete it promptly to hold your spot.
- Please make sure your dog's vaccinations are current and bring proof if requested.
- Dogs must remain leashed at all times except when actively racing.
- Bring plenty of water — September in Ohio can still run warm!
RACE RULES
Okay, so we admire Greyhounds as much as the next guy, but fair is fair. So only genuine, low-to-the-ground Dachshunds (Real Wiener Dogs) will be allowed to race. And we reserve the right to determine which dogs are wieners, and which dogs are not.
- Each race will be approximately 25 yards on the Woeber Mustard “track”.
- There will be multiple heats leading up to the finals.
- Each participating dachshund will need to bring two (2) humans. - One human will carry the racer to the Starting Box and release the racer at the signal. DO NOT THROW YOUR WIENER! The other human will stand at the Finish Line and catch the racing canine.
- You may use a toy or treat to entice the dog, but you must stay at each end until your dog comes to you! The toy or treat may not be thrown or tossed. No loud devices, laser pointers or anything that may be distracting to other dogs/owners.
- You may NOT run alongside the dog.
- Your dog may step out of bounds but must re-enter and completely cross the finish line, within the boundaries, without being grabbed. If the dog is touched by the handler before completely crossing the finish line, the dog will be disqualified.
- Humans are responsible to clean up after their dogs. Canines in heat will not be allowed.
- We reserve the right to disqualify any pet/owner for behavior deemed inappropriate.
- REMEMBER: The only thing serious about this race is the FUN! Judges’ decisions will be final.
See you at the track!
