Chamber Music Concert: Conversations by the Kawartha Chamber Music Collecti
About this Event
Chamber music is, at its heart, a social art. This concert takes that idea seriously.
Conversations is the first of three concerts in the KCMC's new Conversations series, each built around a different kind of musical exchange. Tonight features Max Bruch's Eight Pieces for Clarinet, Viola, and Piano (Op. 83), performed complete by three exceptional musicians.
Bruch wrote these pieces at age 72 for his son Max Felix, a professional clarinettist — among the last major works of his life. The eight movements favour rich, lyrical melodies, Romantic harmonies, and an autumnal depth of expression. The clarinet and viola converse as equals while the piano binds them together. Performed in sequence, they form something closer to a sustained conversation than a collection of pieces.
Performers
- Bryce Porter, Clarinet
- Saskia Tomkins, Viola
- Lucy Heo, Piano
Admission is by donation. A reception follows — we hope you'll stay and continue the conversation.
This is the first concert in the three-part Conversations series:
- Conversations — Bruch Eight Pieces (June 12)
- Discussions — Saint-Saëns & Poulenc Clarinet Sonatas
- Dialogues — Draeseke & Poulenc Clarinet Sonatas
