Challenging The Crown: The Conversation
About this Event
Challenging The Crown:
The Conversation
Join us for an evening of honest conversation, reflection, and insight as we explore the impact of the Strong Black Woman narrative through the lens of the firstborn and parentified daughter.
This special panel discussion brings together Issa Douglas-Smith, author of Challenging the Crown; Temi Alebiosu, Founder of The First Born Daughter Society; and Lynette Owusu-Anokye, CBT & Interpersonal Psychotherapist, for a thought-provoking exploration of the roles, responsibilities, and expectations many Black women carry from childhood into adulthood. Hosted by Quiana Makondo, Founder of Five Foot Giant.
Together, we'll examine how parentification, over-responsibility, and the pressure to be "the strong one" can shape identity, relationships, self-worth, and emotional wellbeing.
Drawing on lived experience, psychotherapy, neuroscience, and practical tools, the panel will discuss:
- How childhood roles can influence adult relationships and behaviour
- The impact of chronic responsibility on the nervous system
- Understanding and challenging unhelpful thought patterns through a CBT lens
- Practical strategies for boundary-setting, and self-reconnection
Inspired by the themes of Challenging the Crown, this conversation is designed to offer attendees a deeper understanding of themselves and tangible tools for growth.
Whether you identify as a firstborn daughter, a parentified daughter, a mental health professional, or simply someone interested in healing generational patterns, this event offers a space for meaningful dialogue, connection, and reflection.
