In 2026 we will be delivering several ambitious long-distance Challenge Trails. To complete some of these challenges, you should be of reasonable fitness and able to walk at a pace of approx. 3 mph (5kmph) on the flat, for up to 12 hours, but if you don't think you are quite there yet, this is where our Challenge Trail Training comes in.
This second block of Challenge Trail Training (CTT 2) will be a series of training walks over 5 weeks, every Saturday, from Feb 28th, in the North West of England.
By building our speed and endurance over 5 weeks, we will grow both the distance covered and elevation climbed.
This CTT: Windermere South Loop has been designed to be used for those training for The Lap (a 47-mile lap of Windermere). The South Loop is a 21-mile/ 33.8km route using mostly the same paths as The Lap event. We will start from Bowness on Windermere and head SOuth on a mix of paths, including rocky moorland, woodland and farmland. We'll take in the view from Gummer's How (bagging a trig point here), and head on through woodland to Newby Bridge at the Southern point of Lake Windermere. The route takes us up and out away from the lake before returning to the shoreline and the ferry crossing near Far Sawry. We will then finish our journey with a 10 minute ferry ride back across to our start point.
We will be aiming to complete this within 9.5 hours.
Who is CTT 2 for?
This block is for those who are walking regularly already (at about the 2.5-mph mark) over 15 miles, but still feel they have a way to go to increase their distance endurance. If you think that may be you, keep reading...
It's for you if you want to walk regularly, gaining distance over a few weeks.
It’s for you if, perhaps you would struggle to motivate yourself alone.
It’s for you if you want to walk in a group with an empathetic, qualified leader, who will add challenge appropriately and provide a supportive atmosphere.

These have been incredibly popular over the last few years and helped many people achieve their goals. You do NOT have to be booked on any of our Challenge Trails to join us.
