CFSO Free Canadian Tax Filing for Newcomers – Toronto (Virtual & In-Person)

Community Family Services of Ontario is offering free Canadian income tax filing support for newcomers living in Toronto through the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP).

This is an ongoing tax filing service from February 23rd - June 30th, 2026, not a one-day event.

After you register:

1. Our team will review your eligibility
2. You will be matched with a trained CVITP volunteer
3. An appointment will be scheduled (virtual or in person)
4. Your Canadian tax return will be prepared and electronically filed, if eligible

Service Period: February 23rd– June 30th, 2026 (During CFSO Office Hours)
Location: Toronto
Format: Virtual and In-Person (by appointment only)

Languages: English, Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese, Tagalog, Farsi, Kurdish Turkish, Somali & Tamil

Advance registration is required. Walk-ins are not accepted.

This service is available to:

• Newcomers living in Toronto, Ontario - Permanent Resident, Convention Refugee, Live-in Caregiver , Residents under Gaza Program or Residents under Hong Kong Pathway
• Simple tax situations
• Individuals and families with modest income
• Annual Gross Income:
• Single: Up to $45,000
• Couple/Single Parent with a child: Up to $55,000
• $5,000 for each additional child (E.g: Couple with one child: Up to $60,000)
• Bank Interest: Up to $1,200

Generally, you may qualify if you:

• Have employment income (T4)
• Receive benefits or social assistance
• Are filing for basic credits

We cannot prepare returns if you have:

• Self-employment or business income
• Rental income
• Significant investment income
• Foreign income or expenses
• Filed for bankruptcy
• Complex tax situations

Important:

• We prepare Canadian income tax returns only
• You must be residing in Ontario
• We do not prepare U.S. tax returns
• Not applicable to a deceased person

3. Please prepare your family members' S.I.N no., UCI no. and some basic information (including: English Name, DOB)
4. Please note that we will collect your spouse and your photo ID (i.e. PR card / landing paper / immigration doc /driver's licence/ photo ID / passport) through E-mail
