💐 Celebration of Life for Darren Rigg 💐 Please join us as we celebrate Darren and the incredible life he lived.
Darren was born in northern England on September 24, 1960, into a large and loving family. As a teen, Darren became a vegetarian and an animal advocate. Later he would emigrate to the United States, where he eventually became a citizen. Darren’s animal advocacy didn’t stop when he moved to the US. As his crowning achievement, Darren founded and ran the Greyhound Adoption Center, where he was instrumental in placing thousands of ex-racing greyhounds into loving homes. A large group of volunteers joined him in finding just the right home for each dog and a dog for each home.
Darren was married to Candy Lewis, DVM. Together they made a loving home for not only greyhounds, but many other dogs and other animals, too, including goats, chickens, ducks, turkeys, cats, rabbits, goldfish and koi, and even turtles and tortoises. In addition to his work with greyhounds, Darren was an avid private pilot, sharing his love of flying with many friends.
Sadly, Darren was diagnosed with early onset Parkinson’s Disease. As the disease inevitably progressed, Darren expressed a desire to move back to the United Kingdom to be near his beloved sisters and brothers. Thanks to his sister, Dena, his wish was granted and Darren left for the UK in March of 2023. He died peacefully in his sleep on June 19, 2025.

This will be an informal gathering so feel free to come when you can and leave when you are ready. Please pass this on to anyone you know who might want to attend.
