About this Event
The Evil Empire Speech Memorial Foundation invites the public to a historic dedication ceremony commemorating one of the most consequential speeches of the Cold War era. This special event marks the installation of a permanent historical memorial at the site where President Ronald Reagan delivered his landmark March 8, 1983 address on human freedom — widely known as the “Evil Empire” speech.
Reagan’s speech helped define the moral clarity of America’s position during the Cold War and affirmed the global struggle for liberty, democracy, and human dignity. More than four decades later, its message continues to resonate as a reminder of the power of words to shape history.
The dedication will feature a distinguished international guest: Lech Wałęsa, former President of Poland (1990–1995), Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, and leader of the Solidarity movement that helped bring about the peaceful collapse of communism in Eastern Europe. President Wałęsa’s life and legacy stand as living testimony to the ideals of freedom and courage that Reagan championed.
This ceremony will gather civic leaders, historians, community members, and supporters of democratic values to honor the enduring significance of the speech and the broader cause of human liberty. The program includes remarks, the official unveiling of the historical marker, and reflections on the global impact of the struggle for freedom.
