Celebrating Minnesota's Farmers: A Love Story

On Tuesday, August 25th, Food Tank, the City of Minneapolis, and the Minnesota Farmer's Union will kick off the Minnesota State Fair with "Celebrating Minnesota's Farmers: A Love Story" at Minneapolis Central Library's Pohlad Hall.
The evening builds on the extraordinary success of Voices of Farmers: A Love Story, the sold-out live storytelling series that has moved audiences from Smock Alley Theatre in Dublin to the Sundance Film Festival, SXSW, and Adelaide Fringe through powerful farmer stories, live music, and immersive theatrical experiences.
You'll hear inspiring stories from farmers across Minnesota including:
Trisha Zachman from Central Minnesota whose family owns Feathered Acres Learning Farm + Inn, a regenerative farm in central Minnesota. As a Niman Ranch farmer, Trisha brings a deep commitment to animal care, soil health, and sharing the story of farming with the next generation.
Mhonpaj Lee from Taylors Falls, Minnesota, is an entrepreneur, farmer, and founder of Mhonpaj’s Garden, Minnesota’s first certified organic Hmong-owned farm. Mhonpaj advocates for food justice, land access, and agricultural entrepreneurship while using farming, real estate, and storytelling to uplift immigrant and refugee communities.
Sina War from St. Paul, Minnesota, a food systems advocate, farmer, and founder of Twin Tiger Farm & Gardens. Sina celebrates Cambodian flavors, culturally significant produce, and the power of food to connect community and heritage.
Emily Zweber from Elko, Minnesota, an Organic Valley farmer-owner from Elko, Minnesota, and a partner at Zweber Farms, a fourth-generation organic dairy farm. Emily helps care for the farm while sharing the story of organic farming with consumers through education, outreach, and advocacy.
Maddie Hokanson from Southeast Minnesota is part of the seventh generation of her family’s pig and cattle farm, Schafer Farms, where she serves as the CFO. She is also part of her husband's farm, Hokanson Family Farms, and brings a powerful voice for livestock farming, agricultural advocacy, and the next generation of Minnesota farmers.
Anita Fondikum from Rogers, Minnesota is a third-generation farmer who immigrated to the U.S. from Cameroon in 2014 and now owns and operates Shining Lights Farm. Her story follows her journey back to the land as a way to reconnect with nature, culture, and community. Shining Lights Farm grows organic, culturally relevant vegetables often difficult to find in local grocery stores including bitter leaves, water leaves, njama njama, garden eggs, okongbong, habanero peppers, ghost peppers, and lemongrass.
