Everyone is invited to our free Tonganoxie Community Historical Society 4th Tuesday MeetingTopic: “Catastrophic Success and the Red Ball Express.”
The TCHS will welcome our speaker Dr. Chris Carey who is a military historian, writer, and director with the Army University Press. This program is based upon his documentary film, “France ’44: The Red Ball Express.” His presentation will focus on the famous truck convoy system that supplied Allied forces after the D-Day invasion in 1944. The convoy was staffed primarily by African-American soldiers. At the peak of its operations, the Express operated almost 6,000 vehicles that carried 12,500 tons of supplies daily for 83 days.
The meeting begins at 7 with a brief business meeting followed by the historical program.
Refreshments will be served after the program.
