Everyone is invited to our free Tonganoxie Community Historical Society 4th Tuesday Meeting: Topic: The Women of BrownThe TCHS will welcome our speaker Donna Rae Pearson. This program will focus on the twelve Black women who were at the forefront of the civil rights movement as plaintiffs in the Brown vs. Board of Education case. Their contributions to the civil rights movement have been largely overlooked. This presentation will explore their stories and their impact on American society.
Donna holds a Masters Degree in History from Wichita State University. She is a museum specialist with the Kansas Historical Society. Prior to joining the Kansas Historical Society, she was a local history librarian at the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library where she taught people who to conduct research to preserve stories of the Topeka community. Donna serves as a commissioner on the city of Topeka’s Local Landmarks Commission and she is a board member of ArtsConnect in Topeka.
The meeting begins at 7 with a brief business meeting followed by the historical program.
