Our Story

In 2021, Cass Tech golf coach Martin Siml approached the CTAA Golf Committee with a vision: to start a golf team at Cass Tech. At that time, there were no golf teams in the Detroit Public Schools, and Cass had not fielded a golf team in years.

Coach Siml explained that the team had no supplies to get started—no golf clubs, balls, tees, equipment, or funding to cover tournament fees. He asked whether the annual golf outing could help provide the support needed to launch the program. He also suggested asking golfers to donate gently used clubs, golf gear, and equipment to help the team get started.

We asked, and you responded generously. Golfers donated both new and used clubs, balls, and other equipment. CTAA provided funds for practice sessions and tournament entry fees. With that support, the team was formed. For many of the students, it was the first time they had ever held a golf club.

They practiced tirelessly, and by the following year they had grown into a stronger, more confident, and more competitive team. Then, in 2023, the Cass Tech Girls Golf Team became the first Detroit Public School golf team to compete in the state championship.

This milestone would not have been possible without your support. Your support has truly made a difference in the Cass Tech Golf Program.
