The Carry the Burden Challenge is hosted by CrossFit Republic in partnership with The Priebe Strong Foundation.
This is going to be an annual event to help raise money for seriously injured first responders in Southwest Missouri (SWMO). The event will have a workout that will be different each year and will show how our local communities carry the burden for all our first responders.
This year we will be giving back to Webster County Deputy Austin McCall and Christian County Deputy Josh Wahl. These deputies were shot and seriously injured back in February.
The Priebe Strong Foundation and CrossFit Republic will always support our seriously injured, but will also never forget those first responders who lose their lives while serving and protecting their communities in SWMO. We will always remember and honor our fallen as part of this event. When a first responder dies in the line of duty, the loss doesn’t end with the funeral. Families carry it. Agencies carry it. Communities carry it.
This event exists to make sure we take care of those first responders who are seriously injured in the line of duty and their families. It also exists to keep saying the names of our fallen and letting their families know we will never forget the sacrifices that those first responder made, as well as the families they leave behind.
Participants will take part in a team-based workout designed to reflect:
The Call — the moment everything starts
The Work — sustained effort under pressure
The Burden — what is carried long after the call ends
This is not a competition, it’s a standard.
The event is free to attend and participate in. Donations are encouraged and go directly to supporting first responders and their families through The Priebe Strong Foundation.

The Carry the Burden Challenge Workout
Time Cap: 60 Minutes
Teams of 2
1. The Call:
1 Mile Team Run
Run together
RX: Wear weight vest (20/14)
Scaled: No vest
2. The Work
20 Rounds (Partners alternate full rounds):
10 Calorie Row
10 Burpees Over the Rower
At all times:
- One partner must hold a kettlebell
- Kettlebell must remain off the ground for reps to count
- Hold can be one or two hands, below the waist
Penalty: If kettlebell touches the ground → both partners complete 10 air squats before continuing
3. The Burden
800 Meter Team Sandbag Carry
Carry together, switch as needed. Move as a team/
Divisions:
RX:
- Weight Vest: 20 lb (men) / 14 lb (women) — worn for the run
- Kettlebell Hold: 70 lb (men) / 53 lb (women)
- Sandbag: 150 lb (men) / 100 lb (women)
Scaled
- No weight vest
- Kettlebell Hold: 53 lb (men) / 35 lb (women)
- Sandbag: 100 lb (men) / 70 lb (women)
Standards
- Partners must complete full rounds before switching
- Burpees must be performed parallel to the rower
- Both feet must clearly pass over the rower each rep
- Sandbag must be carried and not dragged
- Teams must stay together on run and carry
