In honor of Isle of Hope United Methodist Church's 175th anniversary, you are invited to an evening of music that traces the living faith of our congregation across generations. This program explores the gospel songs and hymns that would have shaped worship in south Georgia from the early 19th century through the early decades of the 20th century, reflecting both the joys and the trials of our shared history.Beginning with the sounds of early American folk hymnody and Sacred Harp singing, the program recalls a time when faith was sung with unaccompanied voices and simple instruments—songs that would have been familiar during our church’s earliest years, including its role as a hospital during the Civil War and its witness through periods of conflict and change. Along the way, we honor the enduring spiritual traditions born from African American experience, whose songs of hope and perseverance shaped the religious life of our region.
As the evening progresses, the music moves forward in time, embracing the warmth and assurance of late 19th-century gospel hymns and early Southern gospel songs—music that carried faith into a new century while remaining rooted in the past.
Featuring the Isle of Hope Men's Chorus, reed organ, and violin, this program is not so much a concert, but a musical remembrance—an offering of gratitude for the generations who have worshiped, suffered, rejoiced, and believed within our walls.
We invite you to join us as we celebrate 175 years of faith remembered, faith sung, and faith still alive.
