About this Event
Join LAMAG and YNM for a half-day workshop on preservation tips for artists and their work! During this workshop, Makayla Rawlins, Carolina Benitez Squires, and Jenny Payan will discuss why conservators make certain decisions, how and why you should document your artwork at home, and share mock-ups that might look familiar to some artists.
This workshop will explore:
- The basics of conservation ethics—why conservators make certain decisions
- Simple, effective methods for documenting your artwork at home
- An overview of materials and how they age over time
- Interactive mock-ups and examples that may feel familiar to your own studio practice
We’ll also open the floor for discussion and questions throughout the session.
Have you ever wondered:
- What happens to non-archival materials when exposed to UV light?
- How to create and maintain strong documentation records for your work?
- What questions you’d ask a conservator if you had the chance?
Please note: This is a bring-your-own-lunch workshop—feel free to bring something to enjoy during our midday break.
Come ready to learn, ask questions, and gain practical tools you can immediately apply to your own artistic practice.
