Not gonna lie, life these days is pretty complicated. Discerning fact from fiction is becoming harder and harder in this topsy turvy, upside down crazy pants reality in which we find ourselves. Sometimes it feels like this is the darkest timeline.Franklin Roosevelt once said, “Repetition does not transform a lie into the truth.” And yet, somehow it feels like there are those out there who believe otherwise.
We bet you’ve got a delectable download having to do with deception. Did you fib to your parents about why you were out so late? Perhaps an ex had quite the penchant for playing it fast and loose with the facts.
When was a time you told a little white lie or a big fat whopper? Were your pants on fire? Were you trying to save face, even while your nose continued to grow? Maybe you just wanted to spare someone’s feelings.
We wanna hear your tall tales of forked tongues, spinning yarns, blowing smoke, cooking the books, or you know, things you can’t disguise.
Quite honestly, we’ll be weaving a web for you at Manuel’s Tavern on Tuesday, April 8 at 7p, as we always do on second Tuesdays. Come down early to grab some nosh and fellowship with other Carapeeps.
As a reminder, there’s never any pressure to tell a story. We adore story listeners and storytellers alike. Consider us your circle of trust.
STORYTELLING TIPS:
Find the change in your story. In her show stopper, “Defying Gravity,” Elphaba sings, “something has changed in me.” A story is not a story unless some change has occurred. What's changed in you as the narrator, the circumstances, or the environment? If nothing changes, then it might just be an anecdote. Find the change in your story. As such, every story you tell brings change into the world.
FREE STORY COACHING:
We tend to be at Manuel’s by 6p on the night of the show. If you’d like a little coaching as you prepare to get up on that mic, please feel free to arrive in the hour before to talk through your story’s points for some potential ideas or help with shaping it.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:
Huge thanks to Joe for serving as our johnny-on-the-spot, front-of-house volunteer and assistant producer while Shannon was away for the March event.
We always need volunteers to make our events run like clockwork. Roles include:
*greet people at the door & encourage sign-ups
*keep up the tradition with timing stories
*be our personal paparazzi! (take photos)
Please write back to us here if you’d like to volunteer!
